What to Expect When You Attend Our Milford Worship Service

From the front door to the closing hymn, here’s what a typical Sunday worship service feels like:

  • A warm welcome: Greeters meet you at the door. If it’s your first time, stop by the Welcome Desk for a folder with information and a visitor card.
  • A friendly atmosphere: Members talk with one another before worship, and our pastor and elders make a point to greet people personally.
  • The service itself: You’ll receive a bulletin with the order of worship: announcements, greeting, procession, hymns, Scripture readings, children’s message, sermon, and closing hymn. Don’t worry if you’re new; the bulletin guides you every step.
  • Dress: Wear what feels respectful and comfortable. You’ll see everything from casual to business attire.

Worship Service Rooted in Tradition

Our liturgy comes from the Lutheran Service Book and has shaped Lutheran worship for more than a century. Expect creeds, prayers, hymns, and responses between pastor and congregation. Postures shift—standing, kneeling, sitting—as a way of honoring God with both words and actions.

  • Hymns: Chosen by our pastor, they follow the church year—Advent, Lent, Easter, Christmas—and are approved through the LCMS.
  • Creeds: We confess the Apostles’ or Nicene Creed together as a statement of faith.
  • Communion: Celebrated each Sunday. Visitors are asked to speak with the pastor or an elder beforehand, since Communion is sacred to us and taken with reverence.

Communion Services

We celebrate Holy Communion regularly during our worship services. Communion is very sacred to us, and we ask that all participants first talk with our pastor or an elder to discuss their intentions. You don’t need to be a church member, but we want to make certain your intentions align with our beliefs before participating.

Special Seasonal Services

Throughout the church year, our church offers special worship experiences:

  • Easter Services: Celebrate Christ’s resurrection with special music and traditional liturgy
  • Christmas Eve: Experience the wonder of Christ’s birth in our candlelight service
  • Ash Wednesday: Begin the Lenten season with meaningful reflection
  • Palm Sunday: Join the procession celebrating Jesus’ triumphal entry
  • Good Friday: Reflect on Christ’s sacrifice through solemn worship
  • Advent Season: Prepare for Christmas through special midweek services
